-Iceland Airwaves FEVER!
Welcome to yet another edition of the Reykjavík Grapevine Newsletter, where the elite meet to uhm. Read. This version of our newsletter is a bit special, as we are swamped right now - neck-deep in the ever so awesome Iceland Airwaves festival. It's been a blast thus far, and it'll continue being a blast for a couple of more days. Now, this time around, we're not doing our daily Airwaves newspapers -- we had some problems securing sponsors to be able to do that this time around, what with the economy and whatnot. But we did not fret, opting instead to carry on our fine tradition of reviewing every single show of the festival. Only this time, we're doing it on-line.
That's right, on the internet. So log right on to
www.grapevine.is/airwaves to get your fill of Iceland Airwaves - reviews of every show, interviews, info tidbits and daily updated ramblings. Oh, and there's also a photo slideshow. Below, there is a smattering of samples of what we've been doing thus far. Keep your eyes on that screen and immerse yourself in the festival experience (unless you are in Reykjavík right now, then you should just go out to immerse yourself in all that sweet experience.
Oh, did I mention that our free track of the issue this time around is actually a full compilation of nice Icelandic music? Nineteen tracks in all - from some of our favourite Airwaves artists. It's good - click on the little cover artwork button when you're on there, for all your downloading pleasures.
Also, you should make sure to check
www.grapevine.is every single day for a condensed dose of the most important-ish news from Iceland. Paul Nikolov is still writing, and it's still a pretty great source of information.

Word on the Street
After the fingers and toes I’d start with the head, because I couldn’t bear him watching me as I eat the rest.

Iðnó - Thursday
At Iðnó, the festival's second night started, proceeded and ended at a
very relaxed pace. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, although those
looking for the place to cut loose on the dance floor would have been
left a bit disappointed.

Sódóma - Thursday
What‘s the deal with Soundspell’s singer‘s weird pantomime guitar move? Soundspell were very ‘cutting edge’ and ‘experimental’, but I won’t hold that against them. They were quite innovative, in their own oblivious way, and the fact that they managed to make their kind of music interesting to watch is pretty remarkable. Cool.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Me A Match
A musky aura of suspense hung in the air as Lucas (Austrian) and Tobias
(Swiss), winners of our Win a Date Frímann Frímannsson contest, waited
anxiously for the arrival of the man of the hour. Fifteen minutes
later, Mr. Frímannsson himself glided into the bar, looking hip (as
always) in an elegant trench coat and fancy hat. A few formalities,
introductions, warnings, and instructions later, I pulled Frímann aside
for a little interview.
