From Iceland — Teenage Girl Charged For Not Having Sex With A Grown Man

Teenage Girl Charged For Not Having Sex With A Grown Man

Published October 12, 2013

A 17 year old girl was charged for fraud by the Reykjavík Police after she posed as a prostitute online and ran off with 20.000 ISK handed to her by an unsuspecting “customer”.

She was 16 years old when she got in touch with the man via dating site Einkamál.is and offered him sex for money, Mbl.is reports.

They agreed to meet and the man handed the girl money through his car window. But instead of fulfilling her end of the agreement, the girl ran off.

Evidently highly disappointed, the man thought this was unacceptable and contacted police, who saw reason to charge the girl for fraud.

However, Reykjavík District Court dismissed the charge, saying that the only way the girl could have held up her end of the deal, would have been to actually have sex with the man.

And that, the court considered “unacceptable”.

The State Prosecutor appealed to Supreme Court, who dismissed the charge on Friday, saying it didn’t meet with requirements of Icelandic law.

Buying prostitution is illegal in Iceland, and so is having sex with a minor. It is yet unclear whether the man in question was charged for attempting either crime.
