Admission for adults in Reykjavík’s swimming pools went up by 9% in the new year, or by 50 ISK, despite promises from city council not to raise prices on city services, reports Vísir.
Now adults will have to pay 600 ISK for a dip in the pool instead of 550 ISK.
Eva Einarsdóttir, city councillor for The Best Party and chair of the Sports and Leisure Committee for the city of Reykjavík said raising this single fee to ensure the same level of service was inevitable. She reiterates that all other fees remain unchanged.
“[The decision] protects those who use the swimming pools the most, i.e those with 10 ticket cards, 20 ticket cards, 6 month or annual passes. We call the single entrance fee the tourist’s fee. Tourists use the swimming pools a lot and so it was decided to raise this rate slightly but not the others.” said Einarsdóttir.
