Stuff We Like!

Sports are played. Music is performed. Books have authors. So why is it that the ultra-subversive art collective S.L.Á.T.U.R. is looking for sports authors and performers? Just what the crap is going on here?
I’ll tell you what. It’s time for the annual contest for The Keppur, S.L.Á.T.U.R.’s travelling trophy! Last year it was awarded to Áki Ásgeirsson for his work with the group’s marching band, and this year they have concocted a whole new contest with a rather clever concept: compose a new sport.
The rules are fairly simple. Competitors are to submit a thorough description of the new sport they have created by October 5th. Each sport can use 1 to 21 of the versatile group of performers provided by the event organizers. Each author should provide additional tools or accessories required for the sport itself. Sports that do not get selected to perform will still be reviewed and all authors will be notified of their status in the competition by October 9th.
What’s really neat about this event is the crossing over of sports as art and performance as competition. Not to say these ideas have never been merged before, but S.L.Á.T.U.R. have certainly come up with a fresh twist on it. At the very least, they have found a fantastic way to challenge our artistic and athletic linguistics.
Go check out the main event happening October 15-17th at a yet-to-be-determined location. In the meantime, if you wish to submit your creation, or participate as a performer, get in touch at SLATUR@SLATUR.IS.
