Recent statistics show a drop in the long growing increase of foreign citizens moving to Iceland. This is revealed in a recent population projection by Statistic Iceland, the Icelandic statistics bureau, published on their web site. The bureau predicts a further decrease in the coming months and years.

The report shows the current percentage of foreign citizens inhabiting Iceland as 6.8%, an increase of 0.8% since 2007, which is down by 0.6% from 2006-7, when the increase rose from 4.6% to 6.0%.

This decrease can probably be attributed to the poor economic shape Iceland has found itself in since the start of the financial crisis.
