Member of Parliament, Vigdís Hauksdóttir, who received much media attention after she wrongfully stated that Malta was not an independent nation, will be speaking at an Anti-EU conference in Reykjavík this Saturday, reports Vísir.
“It will be a fabulous conference,” Vigdís said.”I encourage everyone to come and listen to meaningful presentations about independent nations in the Arctic.”

Josef Motzfeldt, a politician from Greenland will be keynote speaker at the event which is being sponsored by Icelandic association, Nei við ESB (No to the EU) and the Norwegian association Nei til EU (No to the EU).

“Norwegians have decades of experience fighting against EU accession and we don’t have to invent the wheel here in Iceland,” Vigdís said. “The Norwegians are just celebrating the 20th anniversary of voting no to the EU referendum in 1994.”

Vigdís Hauksdóttir has been a controversial figure in Iceland of late, not only because she claimed, wrongly, that Europe was suffering a famine, that Malta was not a sovereign nation, but also because of her recent attempts to boycott a newspaper that printed choice remarks made by the MP herself but framed her words in a mocking context.
