Iceland’s premier Elvis impersonator Jósef Ólafsson recently lost his left leg from the knee down to an infection, reports Vísir.
“I was entertaining at a home and the floor was wet. I was doing a karate kick, the kind Elvis would sometimes do but I didn’t notice the slippery floor and fell flat. I had no idea anything had happened but the next day my foot was swollen,” said Jósef.
Jósef’s leg was put in a cast but after it came off it was clear the infection had set in.
“I’m in hospital now. I got an infection in my left foot. The diabetes didn’t help. They had to amputate the left leg from the knee down,” said Jósef.
Jósef will get a prosthetic fitted about a month after he finishes his rehabilitation and promises to don the Elvis suit and continue to bring joy to people with his act.
“It won’t help to let depression take hold and crawl under the duvet. Plenty of people have lost more than me,” said Jósef. “I’ll be better as a one-legged Elvis… That’s all I can do.”
