Icelandic Gaming Industry Founded

Published September 25, 2009

Iceland’s tech market continues to grow, as the Icelandic Gaming Industry becomes officially founded today.
The organization – comprised of numerous Icelandic gaming companies,
including Eve Online creators CCP – will be holding an inaugural
celebration today at 16:00 at Hugmyndahúsi Háskólanna, located at
Grandagarður 2. Leading the event will be Minister of Education Katrín
Jakobsdóttir and Minister of Industry Katrín Júlíusdóttir. There, the
group plans to elect a board and establish a future vision for the
industry. With this founding they will become a formal group operating
under the Icelandic Federation of Industries.
Most people who know about the Icelandic gaming industry know only of
Eve Online, the internationally successful sci-fi MMPORG renowned for
its comprehensiveness and dedicated fanbase. However, IGI is comprised
of ten companies, including CCP. These companies include the AI
research firm Cadia, iPhone game developers On The Rocks, and browser
games company Sauma.
