Icelanders Pledged 56 Million ISK To Kickstarter

Published March 5, 2014

Icelanders have pledged 56 million ISK or 500,000 USD overall to projects on the crowd-funding platform Kickstarter, reports RÚV.

Yesterday Kickstarter reached a new milestone with $1 billion pledged to projects on the site. Of the Nordic countries, the Swedes were most generous overall with $7.1 million pledged. Norwegians pledged $4.1 million, Danes pledged $4 million, Finn’s pledged 2.6 million and Icelanders 500,000.

However, Icelanders were most generous on average pledging 348 USD per pledger. The Norwegians came in second place with 283 USD per pledge on average and Swedes 225 USD.

Though extremely successful for some projects, like PyroPet, Kickstarter does not work out in every case. Earlier in February renowned singer, Björk, cancelled aKickstarter campaign to fund a new version of her Biophilia album-app for Android and Windows 8.
