Disabled access is seriously lacking on the newly renovated Hverfisgata, reports Vísir.
“[Disabled Access] is, to some extent, lacking, I won’t deny that,” said Ámundi Brynjólfsson, office manager at the Environmental and Planning Department of the City of Reykjavik. “The conditions here are quite challenging. If homeowners want us to improve disabled access [on Hverfisgata] then that will be done but disabled access to buildings is the responsibility of homeowners themselves. The City is however prepared to work with homeowners and landlords who wish to improve their disabled access, so long as it does not affect the quality of the sidewalk.”
Ámundi added that disabled access was not overlooked when the renovation of Hverfisgata was planned and that the city will take the criticism to heart. As construction is not finished Ámundi said the City still have an opportunity to address the issue.
