Words by Paul Nikolov
The final results of the constitutional assembly - an unaffiliated group of citizens all campaigning to re-write Iceland's constitution - are in.

Out of just over 500 possible candidates from around the country, 25 were chosen by a record-low 37% of all possible voters last Saturday. The new assembly will be comprised of the following people:

Andres Magnússon

Ari Teitsson

Arnfríður Guðmundsdóttir

Ástrós Gunnlaugsdóttir

Dögg Harðardóttir

Eiríkur Bergmann

Erlingur Sigurðarson

Freyja Haraldsdóttir

Gísli Tryggvason

Guðmundur Gunnarsson

Illugi Jökulsson

Inga Lind Karlsdóttir

Katrín Fjelsted

Katrín Oddsdóttir

Lýður Árnason

Ómar Ragnarsson

Pawel Bartoszek

Pétur Gunnlaugson

Salvör Nordal

Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir

Vilhjálmur Þorsteinsson

Þorkell Helgason

Þorvaldur Gylfason

Þórhildur Þorleifsdóttir

Örn Bárður Jónsson

It should be noted that of these 25, many are well-known Icelandic public figures, including opinion columnists, political scientists, and journalists. There are also only 10 women. RÚV has furthermore pointed out that only three of these people are from outside the capital area, despite the fact that this is where about half the country lives.

This group will compile a list of changes that they would like to see done to the constitution, and submit them to a parliamentary committee. This committee will then draft a new constitution, some time next year.
