CCP Games have signed a deal with director and producer Baltasar Kormákur to develop a television series based on their game EVE Online, according to an official press release.
The series will be based on the accounts of millions of users and players in the EVE Universe that have been submitted to their offshoot site, EVE True Stories. The original concept and storyline will be developed by Baltasar’s team along with CCP, creating something along the lines of “a future history of rival societies trapped beyond a wormhole in a dystopian sci-fi world.”
“The EVE universe is full of astounding stories of epic battles, daring heists, and gripping political intrigue, all of which will make for an amazing television series,” says Baltasar. Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP, says he is confident that the lauded film director will be able to capture the essence of the EVE Universe and inspire viewers.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the keynote address at CCP’s EVE Fanfest 2013 to an audience of 1,800 people in Harpa.
